Lamahatta is consists of two words, Lama which means monk in Buddhism, and hatta stands for the hut. In a nutshell, Lamahatta means Monk’s hermitage. This is the newest tourist spot in West Bengal.
Situated at an altitude of 6500ft, Lamahata is just 24 km away from the mainland of Darjeeling, 15 km away from Jorbunglow, and 65 km away from Siliguri. This place has been developed to attract tourists in off-beat North Bengal by the initiative of Ms. Mamata Banerjee.


Most of the inhabitants here are Bhutias, Dukpas, Tamangs, Yalmos, and Sherpas. with the help of West Bengal tourism, these communities developed eco-tourism.

How to reach Lamahatta: the best way to come to Lamahatta is to book a taxi or get shared sumo from NJP. It takes 3.5 hours to reach here. It is 24 km away from Darjeeling but from Siliguri, it’s 65 km away.
