Lepcha Jagat


Lepcha Jagat means the world of Lepchas. This little hamlet is situated at an altitude of 7000ft from sea level in Darjeeling. Just about 19 km away from the main locality of Darjeeling. As the name suggests this place used to be a locality of Lepcha but subsequently it was taken over by the WBFDC and now it’s a reserved area.

As I mentioned earlier this place is not at all a tourist-rush place. So don’t expect shops and locality, here you can see the pictorial views of mountains, Lush green Sloopy oak, and pine forests. Ghum Rock is one of the best places to be when you are in LepchaJagat. Just 1.5 km away from LepchaJagat, situated at an altitude of 7900ft, Ghum Rock offers a picturesque view of sunrise and a view of Balsan valley.

LepchaJagat is also a haven for birds and wild animals. People who are bird watchers can come to this place, as this place is a shelter for Sibia, Sunbirds, Red-Tailed-Minla, Stripe-throated yuhina, and others.

Pashupati Market: this market is located at the Indo-Nepal border. It is 15 km From LepchaJagat. Very famous for its foreign goods. For Indian people, valid ID proof is required to get into this place. The main market is just half a km away and can be reached by walking only.
